Dildo Sizes Explained: How to Choose Length and Girth
Size is the question most people have when buying a dildo – and the one that makes the biggest difference to comfort. This guide explains what the numbers mean and how to choose the right size for you.
Length vs insertable length
The total length is measured from tip to base. The insertable length is shorter, because the base (often a suction cup) cannot be inserted. When comparing toys, the insertable length is the more useful figure.
Girth and diameter
Diameter is how wide the toy is across; girth is the distance around it. For most people, width affects comfort far more than length. A modest increase in diameter feels much bigger than a longer toy.
Which size is right for you?
- Beginners: around 5–7 inches long with a moderate width. Our 7-inch realistic dildo is a comfortable starting point.
- Intermediate: 7–8 inches with a fuller girth, such as our 7.5-inch purple dildo or the softer clear jelly dildo.
- Experienced: 9 inches and above, like the 9.1-inch realistic dildo or the large blue dildo at 10.6 inches.
How to measure at home
Use a ruler and a soft tape measure on a familiar object or a toy you already own. Compare its length and width with the product details before you buy – it is the easiest way to avoid surprises.
Tips for sizing up
Move up gradually, use plenty of water-based lubricant and take your time. There is never any need to rush. If you are just starting out, our first dildo guide covers the basics.
